In my experience, the hardest job is that of a work-at-home mom. It sounds ideal (I can have a career and see my kids!) when in actuality it's more like trying to manage the expectations of a child who thinks you are available (she's right there!) when in fact you are not.
When your children reach school age, I hear there is still the expectation you will take care of all household duties while doing the job that actually earns you a paycheck. That's two full-time jobs, in case anyone is keeping track.
It's easy to see why someone would want to quit. Job, motherhood, housekeeper, whatever.
Have you seen the video of 25-year-old Marina Shifrin quitting her job at Next Media Animation in epic fashion? It went viral this week and features Marina dancing through her office to Gone by Kanye West.
For those who haven't seen it, I'm gonna post it here to bring you up to speed…
Well, Marina's video (aka Quit-eo) just inspired Brenna from Suburban Snapshots to create a video of her own. It's the work-at-home-mom version because Brenna is tired of cleaning toilets while fielding conference calls.
She's also got some pretty good dance moves…
I predict Brenna's video isn't the last "quit-eo". I'd like to see a quit-eo from a teacher. Or an employee at American Apparel. Or, hmmmm…. perhaps a member of Congress???
So she’s abandoning her family? What am I missing? Just copied a video to copy it? Please enlighten me because this just seems like plagiaristic self-indulgence.
Did you make it to the joke at the end? That’s the best part. Obviously, she can’t quit her family. Also, half of the internet is people copying stuff with a different spin on it. That’s the whole concept of a “meme”. There will be numerous quitting videos all highlighting the injustices of different jobs. It will be awesome. You’ll see.
Ha! “Pile of fresh pink hell,” love it!
Love them both, but especially the last joke. Because it reminded me that we’re out of milk too.
I’d love to “quit” my WAHM job. Since I have hair and glasses like Brenna’s, I’ll just play her video and tell my family it’s me. Since they spend most of their time hollering for me from another room they probably forget exactly what I look like, anyway.
Her dance moves are superior. Staying to the very end of the video is what makes it the best.
I am a WOHM. Can I quit both? Because I am expected to work away from home all day and still take care of the house and the kids in the short time I am actually present in my house.
I recently quit my teaching job to stay at home with my one year old as my oldest starts kindergarten. I, too, was tired of sacrificing my family for my job and all that went with it. I just can’t bring myself to do a video, but I’d love to see a teacher, too!!!
Oh, I’m LMBO! I’m a WAHM too and my bathroom is a petri dish, lol. Too funny.
next to the word “meh” in the online dictionary, a gif of this video should be running.

I am a working mother and I still have to do the majority of the housework at the end of the day (and in the mornings and on the weekends) so I don’t really understand the difference for WAMHs (with respect to household upkeep). Can someone please explain? The difference is mainly the stress of your kid misunderstanding your availability? So nothing to do with household upkeep?
Kevin, I’m hoping to get promoted to “snore” or even “whatevs” by the end of the week. Thanks for your critique!
I too work at home, a daycare, so even though I’m not taking conference calls I still have to field calls while children are screaming in the background lol! It’s hard enough being on hold for two hours with my own child in the house, more or less four others who are not my own. The 6am to 6pm hours, no sick days, and rare holidays are rough. Staying home with my son is a full time job. Adding four other kids makes it FUN (lol). Housework still has to be done, meals still made, and those errands? After hours. Try getting a dr appointment at 7pm. Or renewing your license.. the list goes on. I feel for all working mothers.. in home or out. Being a mom is just such a job in itsself. Cheers for moms!
I am with Jennie! Former teacher quit to stay at home with my 2 boys. If I had the mad skills in this video, I would so be all over making one for teachers. This is hilarious!
And Kevin, please go find a sense of humor. It would do the world some good.
Ooh, not whatevs. Never aim for a shortened word!
That woman is awesome. But I think Breanna’s video was more awesome.
I love it. Both video’s rock- Marina’s for the ultimate in “F you boss” awesomeness and Suburban Snapshots for the awesome meme with fab descriptions of what a real home is like. I DO think, however, she should have been leaving to go get wine….
Agreed with Christie but Suburban Snapshot is SPOT ON. I just went back to work after being a WAHM mom and feel like I’ve escaped from slavery.
That is really funny.
Working and HOme is wayyyy worse, believe me. I work in an office full time, my 1 year old got sick with Pneumonia and I had to stay at home with him for a week and work at the same time, I need to tell you: I HAVE NEVER BEEN more stressed in my life, my boss was calling me for conference calls, at the same time my baby wanted to eat, or needed to be changed, or was screaming. I used my “lunch time” to entertain my son and take him to the backyard to have some outside time, anddd as a bonus I was trashing the house and I was too busy to clean it, I swear I cried when my husband came home, gave him the baby and curled up in a ball in the corner of the living room.. all week long I felt it was so unfair for my son and my employee, honestly I wasn’t giving my all to any of them and that made me feel really bad.
Next to the word pathetic Kevin Blah’s picture should be posted
I’m a little late to the party here Kevin, but I suspect the video is “meh” to you because you don’t relate. Those of us who think it’s hysterical live and think our own version of this most every day. That’s what makes comedy funny. Or not.
