GIVEAWAY: Evenflo ProComfort Symphony DLX Car Seat
Two weeks ago, when I talked about how I spend all my time at the house shuttling my kids around in the car, someone said I was doing too much. I should just open the door and toss them outside.
Point taken. The ability to "toss the kids outside" was one of the main reasons we bought the house.
But, try as I might, I keep winding up at Target or the supermarket and nothing can get me out of driving Mazzy to camp. I gave her a map and a good pair of sneakers but she just looked at me blankly and I was like, "Oh, alright, get in the car."
And then, poor Harlow. The girl has taken a backseat to Mazzy since she was born. Her whole life is basically spent napping or taking Mazzy wherever she needs to go. That's why, instead of just plopping Harlow in the car while I do errands, I decided to take her somewhere for real. I was even going to take Harlow while Mazzy was in camp, so I wouldn't spend the whole time chasing and chastising my four-year-old.
Is it just me or can four-year-olds really ruin a family outing?
Yesterday, I drove Harlow out to Harbes Farms in the North Fork which has a farmer's market, a picnic area and a petting zoo. They've got pony rides and pig races on the weekends, but this was a Monday and Harlow had never seen a live animal besides a dog (poor deprived child), so she wouldn't have any idea what she was missing.
Harlow rode there in style in her new Symphony DLX car seat, part of Evenflo's new ProComfort Series, sold online and at Target. That's the one area Harlow seems to have it better than her sisterโ car seat comfort.
The ProComfort Series was created because Evenflo realized carseat safety is not just about minimizing the impact of an accident, it's about minimizing distractions from the road due to parents attending to children who are uncomfortable. The ProComfort Series uses innovative gel matrix technology which reduces pressure point build-up alleviating discomfort (short term and long term) for a safer, more peaceful ride.
Harlow fell asleep in the car on the way, even though it wasn't her naptime, becauseโ DUHโ COMFORT, which made me wonder if perhaps Evenflo should start making adult car seats and then I was like, no, falling asleep at the wheel would be a bad thing, so let's forget I mentioned it.
Stick with the children, Evenflo, thanks.
Harlow is hit or miss when we take her new places. She can get excited and want to run around, or she can get scared and want me to hold her the entire time. Luckily, the farm sparked something in her immediately.
First, we had a picnic lunch. I bought us both watermelon and fresh corn on the cob from the farm stand.
FYI- Harlow calls corn on the cob "Harlow's corn" and don't you try to call it anything different.
Then I let her run around the farm, but we didn't get far. Three steps in and Harlow saw the chicken coop.
"Chickens!" she screamed and bolted over like they were each standing there holding out a present for her. (Check out Harlow shrieking "chickens" on instagram).
Then she moved onto the billy goats. I pointed out a baby goat and she went nuts.
"Baby baby baby baby baby!!!!"
Then she saw some bearded goats which she insisted on giving each an air kiss. SMART CHOICE.
And lastly, and best of all, she saw the sheep. Harlow stuck her little hand through the gate and touched the tip of one sheep's nose.
"I touched it!!!!" she screamed before she went back for more. Then she spent the next half hour poking her fingers through the fence, waiting for one of the sheep to press his nose up against her little hand. Each time her hand got nuzzled, she started squealing with delight and ran in circles.
Oh goodie, I've got video.
I could have watched her do that ALL DAY.
But alas, it was time to pick Mazzy up from camp. (Isn't it always?)
Ten baby wipes and a bottle of hand sanitizer later, we were back in the car, on the road once again.
Good thing Harlow fell asleep in her car seat on the way back too.
Dreaming of bearded goat kisses, I imagine.

LAST WEEK'S WINNER (from giveaway on 8/08/14):
Congratulations to Sabrina, who won last week's Evenflo Symphony Car Seat giveaway! She was selected randomly and left the following comment about her worst road trip:
"We took a 16 hour road trip with my 10 month-old daughter and 13 year-old. My baby hates the car seat so when she wasn't sleeping she was crying. The only thing that would distract her was the theme song to Roly Poly Olie over and over. She had at least two diaper blowouts and I had to pull over on the side of the road to breastfeed her several times. It was worth it though to see my family who I only get to see once a year."
Let's hope that road trip is easier next year with your new Symphony DLX!

This post was sponsored by Evenflo but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
My 2y/o loves the SF Zoo and my 3 month old gets a kick out of a drive around the block. He’s easy.
My two year old’s favorite day trip was probably the Apple orchard or pumpkin patch. They have farm animals, yummy food, neat playground made up of tractors and wood school buses they can climb in.
We have like a miniature Children’s Museum (like the one in Chicago), the Discovery Center. That’s my go to place to take my girls on random days for endless fun!
The Children’s science museum (which always ends in tears and me dragging him away) is his absolute favorite.
Sorry if posted twice. My son loved the Smithsonian Natural History Museum last spring. Too bad he couldn’t touch the dinosaurs nor did they roar. Too busy and tired since his sister came along for road trips.
Road trip to Missouri to visit family. Hated the “road trip” part, but loved it while we were there.
We love to go to a huge local apple farm. My oldest loves riding the tractor and my youngest loves the animals!
My youngest son’s day trip was my oldest son’s worst nightmare.
We recently moved here in MN from Arizona so were still checking out all the fun places to go with kids. We’ve been talking up FREE como zoo for weeks and finally went a few weeks ago. This zoo wasn’t like any zoo we went to it was free first of all, then had tons of rides! Our first ride and last ride was the spinning apples. We forgot how fast this go and I got on with Axel (oldest child age 3) and (youngest son Renzhi age18 months) were spinning, really quickly and my stomach starts to turn, I look over at Axel and he’s crying yelling “ALL DONE!” I look over at renzhi and he’s smiling, laughing having the best day of his life. This went on for about 3-5 minutes. Axel was making some horrible crying faces while renzhi was loving every second of it. (Dad snapped the perfect pictures to prove it) After the ride was over axel kept telling me & his dad “no more cherry ride” for 5 days straight!
My kids’ favorite day trips are to the MN Zoo and “our” apple orchard (so called because we pick or own apples and they know you can’t pick apples off of a tree that isn’t ours, so this entire orchard is “ours” because we can pick any apples there).
A trip to beach at ST Joseph Michigan with water fountain, carousel, and pizza!
The aquarium is always a big hit.
Going to the park
Kids love going to the City Garden called Botanica!
when my son was 2, we went to a breakfast with Elmo and friends at Busch Gardens. It was one of the most magical experiences we have ever had with our children. All his favorite foods were there, so he was food happy-and then out came all his favorite characters! He snuggled in their soft and furry costumes and fell asleep with a smile in his face. The pictures are still some of my favorites! Thank you for the giveaway!
My 3 (almost 4) year old LOVES trips to see her auntie! One trip was kept a secret the entire 5 hour ride there. When we arrived she and I hid in the car while my parents and sister unloaded. My sister had quite the surprise when she opened the back door to find us! Some of our other favorites are the zoo and children’s museum. My 10 month old doesn’t make it much more than a 2 hour trip.maybe a comfy carseat will change that!
My lo loves the zoo (shuttle is his favorite-go figure), sand, playgrounds, library story times, splash pads, metroparks and going to target thankfully (yay!)
My son loves any new adventure. We went to the zoo this year and although he had been there many times, this was his first trip where he could really explain how excitedhe was about sseeing all the animals. The video of Harlow reminded me of him and his excitement. The zoo is about 45 minutes away from us so we always get a map in on the way home but it never looks comfortable. We don’t have a car seat that has the head rests and Cooper says we need a new car seat. He is growing out of the one we have so the one in your post looks great! I’ll can’t wait to find a local petting zoo and plan a day trip again.
The best trips are to target of course! When we pull into the parking lot my little girl claps and says yay!! A great memory I have for day trips is the shedd in downtown Chicago! I was a nanny and decided to try out the shedd! My little girl love it! Totally a success. We spent almost an hour and a half with the white beluga whales! She would laugh and giggle as they swam by. She would kiss the glass and say more more! It was a great bonding time for us as well! She must have kissed the glass 25 times before we left. She asked me for 2 weeks straight if we could go back. I ended up buying the membership so we could go back as many times as she wanted. That memory will stick with me forever ๐ I can’t wait to take my little girl this fall. I can only hope she loves it just as much!!
Didnt see how to edit my comment (sorry)… would love this seat for my lo due in december as we love convertible car seats for our kids! Also the fair is always a hit!!
Our 2 year old son loves, loves, LOOOVES, going to the Ga Aquarium in Atlanta! We actually just took him there yesterday for his birthday for the second time…. We couldn’t have gotten him a better gift! He was in a trance the whole day just looking at all the fishies, sharks, dolphins, penguins, etc! It’s a day trip that I highly recommend if there’s an aquarium near you! :).
Thanks for giving us the chance to win the Evenflo car seat!
My almost two year old daughter loves to go swimming (which she calls “baf”. Translation “bath” lol), but she totally hated the beach. She also loves any place with a slide. I absolutely love this post, both of your girls are such cuties, and how special that you got to spend some one on one time with Harlow. ๐ also liked and shared the post.
Dairy Queen drive thru!
My son is a year old, and he loves to go everywhere! I would have to say his favorite place is eating at Buffalo Wild Wings.
My kids love going just about anywhere, but I would have to say when we go to build a bear they love it! The closest one to us is about an hour away so when we go we plan on going to lunch and we walk around to a few other stores and then we go home. We make an entire day out of it and they have so much fun. I wish we could do it more often but how many stuffed bears does a kid need?! Lol
My kids love Fawn-Doe-Rosa. It is several acres of land with roaming deer to pet and feed. Although, my two-year-old decided it would also be a great idea to try to ride one…It seems she was a bit confused by my mention of pony rides because as she attempted to climb on the poor, confused deer, she was shrieking “ride pony, ride pony.” I had to quickly correct her knowledge of animals before she got us all kicked out of the place. They also have the usual petting zoo animals (sheep, goats, chickens), as well as more “wild” types (bear, leopards). The wild ones are kept cages, of course. We never leave without a pony ride – on an actual pony – not a deer mistaken for one.
My son loves the zoo and Wal Mart. I swear we go to Wal Mart everyday >.<
We went to Hayden Planetarium at the museum of Natural History and watching my daughters face looking up at the stars was amazing. We told her that we were taking a rocket ship up to space
and she really believed we were in space. It was magical. Took her last year too but she was still pretty small. Wound up breastfeeding her while star gazing. Most strange place Ive ever nursed, but an awesome memory.
My son’s favorite day trip is to the beach. He loves the drive down and gets excited when we say we’re here! He can’t wait to get his feet in the sand and water. My little girl loves trips to grandma and grandpa’s house. It really close enough that we can walk over but getting in the car makes it special for her. She tells them we drove all the way over here ๐
My kids love the splash parks! Easy with small children, no worries of drowning
My almost 3 year old and 1 year old love splash pads. They both always try to drink the water, which completely grosses me out, but it’s gives me such joy watching them have so much fun. Especially since fun splash pad days means long naps for both…at the same time!
My daughter loves the zoo. Her favorite animals are the turkeys, of all things.
we love the aquarium and the zoo!! I wish we had more adorable little farm places like this around where we live! adorable. maybe I should just buy my own baby goat ๐
took my daughter to the playground for an hour! she LOVES it there!! simple thing as to taking her to the playground and having her run around and swing on the swing….nothing but smiles
We live in Brooklyn and do not own a car, so when we do take day trips in a zip car or with a friend it is usually to a children’s museum or the beach. However, the ultimate for a city kid is being able to go to Target or the grocery store and ride around in the cart as opposed to her stroller!
We love to discover and go visit fun parks.
Maddie really loves going to the Children’s Museum. The whole family has fun, that’s why we for a yearly membership. =D
My daughter’s first day trip experience will be exiting the womb ANY DAY NOW. We LOVE animals and nature, so I’m sure it will be to a park or local farm! ๐
***got!
We love to take our 1 and 3 year olds on trips to the beach! They also like day trips to the zoo or parks.
My baby is 9 months old and her favorite day trip is to the tiny airport down the road to watch airplanes take off and fly over head! We could sit in the grass and look up at the sky all day!
My son loved the local children’s museum and the pumpkin patch in the fall! (Makes for great photo ops, too!)
Favorite day trip is to our local pool. My 1 yo is obsessed with the little ducky slide in the kiddie pool.
To grandma’s
My daughter loves going everywhere. She calls them the “best day ever” (spongebob) even if it’s just going to the park. She makes lists of what we can do. She doesn’t know how to spell so they are picture lists and so darn adorable. I love her enthusiasm for everything she does.
We just took a trip to Rocky Mountain national park in Colorado. My 18 month old had a blast! Hiking(running round playing in dirt, water and other:-/ ) Then we saw a herd of elk crossing the road and he was delighted that they could run! He giggled every time they ran:)
I had a road trip from Ottawa to Toronto with my three children,7 years old, 5 years old and 6 months old I wish I had This even flow car seat because my baby suffered from 5 hours uncomfortable ride…she was crying the whole time and so unhappy ๐ I have to think million time when I plan another trip ๐
My baby girl enjoyed the zoo and maryland renaissance festival, but honestly, as long as she’s outside and there’s trees and we’re walking, she’s happy!
We have a local kids art museum my boys love. Part gallery, part hands-on learning, part free-play, they could spend an entire day there if I’d let them!
When we lived in DC they loved going to all the museums! We saw everything!
One of our very favorite day trips was on a weekend, headed to the local farmers market. This time, it was special you see, we needed a car wash in the worst way so we decided to pull into the gas station first. My husband put 6 dollars in the auto money hustler off it started! My kids were color haven! I mean really, where do they get all of those colorful bubblegum smelling soaps and oh do they twist and twirl so wonderfully on the windshield! Who needs the art museum, eh? Now, my 4 year old requests the car wash on her birthdays from here on out. Easy peasy!
My Son loves the park! Plain and simple! He’s 2, yet the second we pull in the parking lot he’s screeching “eh! Eh! Eh!” And pointing at the big slide
My youngest loves to watch his oldest brother’s baseball and hockey games. Probably because they are held in pretty open areas and he enjoys watching me chase him down every 2 seconds while he cackles and runs away as fast as he can.
